I maintain an active private studio for violists of all levels and beginning to intermediate violinists. My teaching is strongly influenced by the Suzuki philosophy as well as my own personal training from over a decade of private instruction. This combined experience allows me to teach students as young as 3 and as old as 103!
I believe that in order to teach the instrument, one must first teach the body. As a result, my instruction incorporates concepts from my experience with Alexander Technique and Yoga. By combining principals from these practices with sound pedagogy, the student will develop a relaxed, balanced posture, heightened self-awareness, and develop ease and fluidity in performance. These principals also prevent common repetetive strain injuries, such as tendonitis and carpal tunnel syndrome, associated with violin and viola playing.
All that said, I want you to know that I am here to help you meet YOUR musical goals. Whether you want to buckle down for college auditions in preparation for a serious career in music, pick up a fiddle and learn some Irish tunes, or provide your child with solid musical foundations from pre-school years on, I can provide you with the tools that are necessary to help you make the music that you find meaningful.
